I have an XP network at home (3 pc's) - can i send a
message that pops up on the screen of another pc?

I am aware of netsend, but that's command line isn't it?

Yes. If you want a windowed app to do this, there are several
freeware/shareware choices. One that I've used successfully is
called NetHail. http://www.nethail.com/NT_Hail.html
