I recently upgraded to Windows XP and re-installed
Outlook 2002. After rebuilding my email account
settings, I can receive email just fine, but cannot seem
to send. When using the "test account settings" feature,
I receive the following error message when it tries to
send a test message....

Task 'The Friedmans - Sending and Receiving' reported
error (0x800CCC78) : 'Unable to send the message. Please
verify the e-mail address in your account properties.
The server responded: 530 authentication required - for
help go to
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/sbc/dsl/mail/pop/pop-
11.html'

.... The email address field is correct, as are all the
other account settings. Any thoughts and suggestions
welcome! Thanks!

Did you go to that Yahoo help page and then click on the link for
instructions on setting up authentication for Outlook 97, 2000 and 2002?
(Look in the section below the line that starts with "Important".)

You can do two things -- make the Folder List visible by going to View |
Layout and checking the Folder List box; and add the Newsgroups button to
your toolbar.

Note that if you are accessing the newsgroups via View | Go To | News in
Outlook, you are actually opening up a "news only" version of Outlook
Express. Outlook uses Outlook Express as its newsreader; it doesn't read
newsgroups on its own. Therefore, although you *could* post newsreader
questions in the Outlook groups, you may get faster and more accurate
answers to your OE questions if you post them to an OE group. If you need
help finding one, please post back.

Sorry, that last one was posted to the wrong thread. Please disregard.

The link actually says "Microsoft Outlook 98, 2000, and 2002". My
apologies.
