sempron processors

hi i am hoping someone can answer a question for me i just purchased a new
sempron 2400 to replace an old duron 700 when i put the new processor in, my
computer only recognised it as an amd athlon 1000 - thanks

In order to replace a CPU you will have to know the CPU's your MB will
accept.
In order to replace a CPU with a faster one you will need to make necessary
changes in the BIOS to the Multiplier, FSB, & VCore voltage or replace the
old or burnt out one with the same size.
If you are using a manufactured computer (ie: HP, Compaq, Dell, ect.) then
these setting will more then likely be lock to prevent users from changing
them and overclocking.
I might be possible to check the manufactures website to see if they offer a
BIOS flash to be able to upgrade to a fast CPU.

NOTE: BIOS flashing should only be done by experienced tech's because if not
done correctly can render your computer useless.

when the new processor said 1000Mhz the first thing i did was go to the
asrock website and i flashed the bios with the newest version they had for my
board but nothing changed i then went to amd's website to get any drivers or
tools that might have helped still no joy so i have no more ideas. i dont
know why but about 4 months ago a friend of mine bought the same board i have
and a sempron 2400 and his pc says that his is running at 1.67Ghz... not a
great improvement but a bit better than mine. thanks for the imput if you
have any more ideas id be greatful

Yes
Now that I know you do not have an OEM MB then your CPU settings shouldn't
be locked.
I will need to know what model your MB is and what the Multiplier, FSB, &
VCore settings are in the BIOS and I will be able to tell you what to change
them to without overclocking. I will also need the model numbers to the
processor so I can determine what the FSB is.
