selling this computer

Hi can any one tell me if there is away that i can get rid of my info on
windows xp pro. So if i sell this computer that no one can get my info. off
this computer. Because i know that any one can use restore with windows xp
and every thing you delete will come back.

What? Use restore and everything you delete will come back...?
That's funny.

Anyway - use the installation media and reinstall Windows XP and
applications from scratch and give those CDs/DVDs to the new owner as well.
Once you reinstall - although the new owner might have a clean room and few
thousand dollars and maybe they do want your data back that badly and maybe
they might possibly get some readable data off the drive in that case from
something you saved.... But really - how likely is that scenario?

Actually, System Restore can't retrieve data files, but plenty of other
data recovery means exist.

To protect your personal information and data from any future users
of average skills, you should, at the very least, format the hard drive.
If you wish to do a more thorough job of protecting your friend's
personal data, WipeDrive

DoD standards for securely cleaning surplus unclassified hard drives,
and could be used before formatting and reinstalling the OS and
applications.

The default settings will make it impossible, even for professional
data recovery services to access anything stored on your hard drive.

"Format" does not erase files. They're still there.

Best bet is to use a drive wiping utility to wipe the drive clean. Several
respondents in this thread have given you links to such utilities. After
that, if you want, reinstall XP or sell the computer with no OS. If you
want to transfer the OS with it, make sure you include the installation CD,
license key and COA.

1. Delete all partitions.
2. Zero fill the hard drive.
