selective saved sent messages

My OL chooses to save only some messages, always ones that have attachments,
in my saved folder. I've sent it to not save anything, and I have a rule
that copies all outgoing messages into my inbox (which I then file into PST
folders). I am pretty sure the only ones it's saving are the ones that are
sent via the "send to" function in MS apps (file menu). Is there a way
within OL to let it know that anything sent via OL, whether from itself or
other programs, should not be saved in the sent folder? Or is there another
way to address this problem, without having to think about checking the sent
folder often (I use PST files, and when I send these things, they're by
definition always attachments, and add up to a large file pretty quickly at
times).

Thanks.

You should not save anything to your Inbox. Outgoing messages should be saved
in Sent Items. Choose that option in Tools, options, email options. There is
no "Saved" folder in OL. You can set up one with that name and change your
rule.

I didn't mean my saved folder, I meant Sent Items. The point of having a
rule that puts things in the Inbox is then I don't have to see two places to
see received and sent strings of emails. Plus, since I save all messages
that are important, inbound and outbound, in my PST folders (by the way, I'm
talking about POP 3, so even my general mailbox is a PST), it makes it easier
to highlight all relevant strings as they happen in the inbox.

That said, I still don't understand why the messages sent out of MS programs
(PPT, DOC, XLS, etc.) would save in the sent folder, even though the setting
in OL is set to not save messages.

Any insight on that one? Thx.

The Send To function does not use the same interface in tot he mail
functions that Outlook does and you cannot control where the sent item will
be stored. It will always be stored in the Sent Items folder, as far as I
can tell.
