Using Word XP, I have ticked the "When selecting, automatically select entire
word" box. When I close Word and start up again, the box is unchecked.

Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks for responding, CyberTaz. I do click the "OK" button and it works for
awhile, normally for my complete Word session until closing. When I restart
Word, sometimes it's checked and sometimes it isn't -- intermittent and
erratic, I'd say.

Any next steps? Or do you think I should repair or reinstall the entire
application?

You can try nuking the Word Data key in the Registry (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissngMenusEtc.htm), but when I had this
problem with one of my Options settings not being saved, it turned out that
the problem was caused by a poorly written add-in.

If you add the following line to an autonew macro, it will be reset to your
preference for every new document.

Options.AutoWordSelection = True

Personally I find that option makes editing more complicated.
