Selected cell will not release

Occasionally after I have selected a cell in MS Excel 97
it will not release by left or right clicking and when I
move the mouse the other cells are slected. These also
will not release. The only way out of this situation I
have found is to terminate the program using Ctrl-Alt-Del.
This is very annoying. Is this a know problem and if so
what is the solution?
I have Pentium II with Windows 98 and 256 MB of RAM.

I don't know if this works for you, but I was successful on several machines
running different versions of Excel.

Press both the left and right buttons of your mouse simultaneously, and
chances are that you get out of your problem.

If it worked, please post back. I am curious to know if this could be one of
the solutions.

One more thing that might work is to click the wheel on a wheel mouse. It
works for me.
