Does anyone have a working link for the tiny IJINI browser written by
Dharmesh Patel? It was mentioned in this group a while ago:
http://snipurl.com/mha2
http://snipurl.com/mh9x

The IJINI home page is http://ijini.batcave.net/

The IJINI download link is http://ijini.batcave.net/ijini.txt
(replace TXT by ZIP) but that link just displays some default page of
the hosting site.

The freeware sites for IJINI hotlink to the main site but the host
site http://www.batcave.net/ doesn't allow hotlinking so their
downloads fail.

This download is really tiny at 81 KB, so maybe there is a freeware
site out there which has got its own copy of IJINI?

I've also noticed this one mentioned for ijini.
http://www.all4you.dk/FreewareWorld/links.php?page=38&cat=012
but it leads back to the batcave too. I reported it to them as
"HomePage does not work" since they have such as easy reporting
system. Maybe they can generate something.

I'll email a copy if all else fails, and you so request.

I prefer the tabbed browsing avialable in OffByOne and use it more
often than ijini. I also cannot paste urls in ijini but I can in OB1,
which is also a no-install, with a 1 meg exe.

Click to download ijini browser
After Downloading ijini.txt Rename as ijini.ZIP
http://web.archive.org/web/20050307013713/http://ijini.batcave.net/ijini.txt

I got the file (used right-click, save as). File size 81.3 KB (83,276
bytes). I renamed it as directed, couldn't get any further. . . maybe
someone smarter will succeed. . .

The Wayback Machine shows several links to a zip too - none of them worked:

I downloaded, renamed and unpacked it without problems.
file size 83276, unpacked exe file 294912.

But my luck ran out there, when trying to run the exe file I got an
error msg, class not registered, so it needs some special kind of
environment, does not work in my win98se system.

Email me at (e-mail address removed) & you shall receive.

Thank you for the kind offer jmatt but I have mny own copy of this
browser.

I want to refer to the browser in an email and allow the recipient
(and any others) to be able to download it. That's the problem for
me.

This is a real pity as it is one helluva sweet little browser.

==============

I have version 1.1 and it works very well. The main executable is only
300K, but also requires a mssdtfmt.dll file to be registered in order to
work. I have this file as well; any .dll can be registered manually
with the use of Regsvr32.exe (in all Windows versions) Am happy to
provide a zipped package to anyone having a server for making it
available for download to all in a.c.f. Any takers?

Is either of these browsers any _safer_ than IE? Since they are so small,
one must assume they use some installed components already on the PC,
which may or may not be safe. For instance, with ijini, the right-click
context menu looks distressingly familiar, and if you go to WindowsUpdate
it will run those "unsafe" ActiveX controls that Firefox ignores.

I have got it running on Win98SE but had to find these files to get it to work
msstdfmt.dll c:/windows/system folder
msvbvm60.dll c:/windows/system32 folder
mscomctlocx find it here http://gamewand.com/whomp/setup-ocx.exe
Start, Run without quotes "regsvr32.exe msstdfmt.dll"

I followed your advice and got it working. Thanks.

The browser seems very immature, it has just the most basic functions
of a web browser. It is obviously a shell for IE. Only the main window
is styled, all subwindows look like IE.

This is not a new browser, it is a decoration and styling of the
toolbars in IE.
The author has not even implemented the style in all IE windows, just
the first window.

If you want to play with injini so more, here's what I came up with.
My ijini exe is also 294912 but works OK on my Win98SE. I googled
"class not registered" and it is a very common error msg for all
kinds of software. I learned nothing.

My ijini has a msg running across the screen saying "Welcome to
ijini v1.1". Properties data says it is v1.0 so I don't know what's
with that.

Do you have Dependency Walker? It's a neat troubleshooting tool
though I've not had an opportunity to try to solve a problem with
it yet. When I opened ijini from within DW, it gave me tons of info.
Unfortunately, I don't understand the majority of it.

Anyway under the Profile tab I see even more detailed info about what
ijini is involved with. As injini opened it reported four entries where
objects could not be found on the system. MSOERT2, USERENV, UXTHEME,
and APPHELP, all are dlls. After profiling, injini started, so the
'error opening file' on those four dlls did not prevent injini from
running.

DW might give you a clue. If you want it see what it does, go here:

http://www.dependencywalker.com/
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=227

A couple of things it does:

* Ability to monitor module entrypoints (like DllMain) looking for
module initialization failures.
* Module profiling to detect dynamic dependencies, child processes,
thread activity, and exceptions. Child processes can also be profiled
for their dependencies.

Hope it helps.

Just for the archives. . . it's "i jini" not "ijini" (spelling matters
when Googling for information). . . ;)

Program: i jini
Author: Patel Dharmesh
W: LFW
Ware: (Donationware) (free) v 1.1

BTW - I learned a new trick - add the URL you're looking for to the end
of this URL:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/

For instance add i jini's home page URL:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.ijini.batcave.net/

and the Wayback Machine will show you the search results.

it's quicker than waiting for http://web.archive.org to load. . .

I would say OB1 is because it is a stand-alone 1.1MB application with no
dependencies on any other browser or browser component. Works in all
flavors of windows too.

Firefox, which I use nearly always, is much larger, separate from IE and
feature rich compared to OB1.

Since opinions are that I jini is a shell, I will remove it from my HD.
There are much better, though larger shells, but I have no use for
shells with Firefox.

The last page update at the I jini site was Mar 07, 2005, so I assume it
is dead.

Nice utility. Check out Faber Toys for their driver dependency tool.

And PE Analyzer is like your Dependency Walker in that it was written
for MS but this one tries to look inside a DLL.
