Seeing Two instances of the Data File in the TRee!

I am sorry for the obscure Subject line, but I can't think of a way to
describe this.

I am using Outlook with regular Internet Email. I have it set up with the
standard one Data File. When I go to the Data Files page, there is only one
file in use.
But.. In the Tree on the Left (in Office 2003) I see 2 personal Folders (of
the Data File) and they are exactly the same thing, when I get new email,
both inboxes receive the file.
Also, when I go to the Email Accounts page, and I want to choose which Data
File to direct the emails to, it shows 2 options, both having the same name
(Duh, I only have the one Data file).
I have had this problem on multiple computers, it usually happens when I
choose a loction other than the default one for the PST file (I am not 100%
sure about that one though)

Please help me out, this one is very annoying.
Thank you in advance,
Yoni

What method do you use when choosing another pst-file location? Currently
you use one that corrups your profile.

To create a new profile (do not copy it);
Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles

To access your current pst-file in the new profile;
File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

To set it as the default delivery location;
Tools-> E-mail Accounts...-> button Next-> use the dropdownlist below

i never copied it, I just put it int he folder, so it uses the outlook.pst
that I put in there instead of the original one.

Thought so; that way you corrupt your profile. See my previous reply on how
to change the default delivery location properly.

Hi Roady,
This double presence is exactly what I am also viewing in Outlook 2000
in Internet Mail Only mode.
This has long frustrated and puzzled me and also leads, I expect to a
much larger PST file than otherwise. I also note that CONTACTS can be
different the two duplicate portions, while the email portion is
always a match. In other words, if I delete an email in one of the two
portions, the mirror portion also looses the email. But with contacts
I can change one and the other portion will not necessarily change.

In any event - my concern is that - When I go to Control panel - Mail
- in Windows 2000, I only get the opening up of the INTERNET ACCOUNTS
that I would get if I go to TOOLS - ACCOUNTS while in Outlook 2000.

I do not get the Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles sequence.
Is it possible to do what you advised Yoni, but in Outlook 2000 ? or
would it be better at this point to upgrade to Outlook 2002, which I
have on disk, as the only way to correct the corruption.
I appreciate your help.

The standard method of creating a new profile in OL 2000 IMO. Use Google
Groups to search the m.p.outlook and the m.p.o.general newsgroup for replies
from Russ Valentine that contain reference to OL 2000 IMO and createing a
profile, since he's described the method in the past.

To create a new "profile" in IMO, quit Outlook then delete this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Messaging
Subsystem\Profiles\Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings

Restart Outlook. It will create a new profile automatically.

Thank you Russ, I will get at it and respond with the results.
