Egwig the Fit

.....or NOT.

After downloading several interesting recommendations from this excellent
group I have been disappointed that my XP-home refuses to run them.
I get a message saying,

"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT - The system file is not suitable for
running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications."

If there should be such a file on my system, I cannot find it.

What should I try?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

there are lots of hits when doing a google on autoexec.nt Evidently a
somewhat common problem.
