Four XP Pro workstations (named compA, compB, compC, compD) networked
together as a workgroup. On compA, I would like to share a folder with
compB as read only. Also on compA, I would like to share the same folder
with compC as read and write. I don't want compD to access this folder.
Can't seem to do this. Up to now, I have been using "Everyone" to read and
write. Now I want to get a little more sophisticated. Any help?

In a workgroup format, you cannot share based on
computer. You create users on each computer (the same
users/passwords on all or different ones, it doesn't
matter).

You then share out what you want to share out, and assign
permissions to the user accounts (the user on THAT
machine) you want to have access. When people view the
shares, they'll need to enter their username and password
to access them (if they use that username and password to
log on to their local machine, they shouldn't get
prompted).

Does this mean that all users must defined on the computer that shares a
folder? This is fine, except that the standard welcome screen now becomes
very crowded.
