When I load Cumulative Security Update for Internet
Explorer 6 SP1 (KB824145)on my system, I cannot get
Windows to start. If I turn off my computer and turn it
back on, it boots up to the point when the cursor should
appear, then it stops. When I reset my system to an
earlier restore point that does not include this update,
it starts normally. Is anyone else having a similar
problem?
 
The cumulative patch is a collection of 5 previously
released hotfixes if you have these already you don't
need KB824145

You are not alone. I had to remove the 824145 update because it made my
system literally grind to a halt. And my problem was *not* due to the
failure to close applications and my anti-virus down before patch
installation.

I would still recommend for you to remove the patch, then try installing
it again with everything shut down. If it still gives you grief, maybe
it's a case of the cure being worse than the disease.
