In my add and remove section i have a lot of security updates for windows
which have been installed over a period of time, apart from the latest update
am i now able to remove the rarely used ones or am i better off keeping them?
Also, i have not added anything new but when i open a few programs at once
my computer tells me i am low on vitual memory and it readjusts it, is there
away that i can stop this from happening all the time? I have 224 mg left on
my system and 2.42 GHz.

Don't remove any security updates. While SP2 does include all previously
released security fixes, including SP1, it does not include any that came
afterwards. If you should decide to remove security updates (note that
most cannot be removed at all), ensure you run Windows Update
immediately afterwards to ensure they are definitely not required.

With regards Virtual Memory, consult the following article:

You "never" want to remove a security update, unless you are having problem
with one particular item. To do so would be synonymous with removing all
the locks on your house because no one has ever tried to break into your
home.

Leave them be!

No, do not remove these. If you remove them, you put back the security
exposure they were designed to eliminate.

I agree with the other posters - do not remove the updates! But in view of
your second question, are you trying to free up disk space? One thing you
can do is go to the Windows folder and look for items that have names
similar to $NtUninstallKB908519$ These will all be hidden folders - so you
need to turn on the option for viewing hidden files and folders. By default
they are compressed and will appear blue. These contain all of the uninstall
information for the various Windows Updates. These folders can be deleted to
free up a few MB's of space. Once the folders are deleted you can then
remove the references to them in the Add/Remove Programs list. If you need
further help on any of the procedure, post back to this thread.

You may also want to investigate the cost of installing a new hard drive.
They are relatively inexpensive today.
