Could anyone tell me why after installing this Security Update for Windows XP
(KB885835)that when I restart my PC it asks for me to enter my logon password
when I have never had one. Any help appreciated. Thanks

John;
If you want the computer to boot directly to Desktop without needing to
log-on:
Start/Run
Type "control userpasswords2" ENTER
Uncheck "Users must logon..."
Click OK and follow prompts.

It does that normally but when I install the update I can't log on. It asks
me for a password that does not exist.

I have tried that. When I do that an error message says something along the
lines of string command is to long. Reenter password. It won't let you go
beyond this point. It only happens when I put the security update KB885835.
Which is one of the new updates.

Can you get to Safe Mode?
Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.
Then go to Add/Remove Programs to uninstall the update.

If you can't get to Safe Mode, Reboot again tapping F8, this time select
"Last known good configuration".

Otherwise perform a Repair Installation:

It seems like my friend also encounters the same problem as yours. How did
you do? You selected the "Last known good configuration" or repair
installation??

In my friend case, he can't log in to user account even it's in Safe Mode..

Thank you :)

Jul neither could I but as Jupiter Jones wrote If you can't get to Safe Mode,
Reboot again tapping F8, this time select "Last known good configuration".
That should fix his problem.
