I have asked this q b 4 however I have't had time to read any replies. Now I can't find my original Q. How can I prevent my 14 y old son from getting into my account via D.O.S mode. M account is password protected .HE got in ,erased my password and made himself computr admin.

Do you have ALL accounts with Administrator access passworded?

How about the Safe Mode Administrator?
Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.
Select Administrator.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select Administrator and set a password.

Reboot back to normal mode.
Go to User Accounts in Control Panel set/change passwords on all
Administrator accounts.

If he has access to any Administrator, he has access to everything.
Any Administrator can do and undo anything any Administrator can do.

ok i went into safe mode and my son has already made himself "admiistrator" password protected. this account only shows up in safe mode . how can i get in and make me administrator and prevent him from doing same

Hi Dave

This is not a technical response, first off how old is
your son? Secondly, where do you keep your computer?
Third, what is it that he does on the computer that
you don't want him having access to?

Lastly, do as I do, I lock my computer in my home office
and my son can't get to it :) Hehehe.. that is only when
he is on restriction mode. I also monitor everything he
does with a background program that copies everything he
does so that way he can't say he didn't access sites he
shouldn't have etc...and if all else fails, Dave, then
give the kid a good old Italian Spanking if he does not
tell you the admin password to change and lock him out

Once you 'lock the gate' as Jupiter suggests, you may try a more aggressive
measure as a preemptive strike:
USE A BIOS PASSWORD

Dave;
You need access to an Administrator account.
From there you can go to User Accounts and change/delete/add passwords
to any other account.
If you do not have Administrator access:

What your son has done would get people fired from most businesses.
You need to take appropriate action to keep control of the computer.
If he has physical access, he can eventually do anything.
There must be appropriate consequences or you may as well just give
the computer to him because he has already won since you lost control.

The only other suggestion that I would make is to confirm what fil
system you are using, if you are using fat32, you need to convert t
NTFS, this will stop anyone from seeing your files and making change
through a DOS boot disk.

If already using NTFS, then your son has a password changing boot u
floppy and I agree with the other posters, take away his privileges
not sure about spanking, but the inability to actually use the compute
worked wonders with my teenage girls.

Installing a password in the BIOS would only stop anyone from makin
changes in the BIOS, it would not stop the pc from booting up

O.K I get the message . What happened was my son was spending all his time on the computer chatting and playing games. When he started to do poorly in school ,I warned him then deleated his account to a file in my account. A couple of days later I found that he got into my account ( password protected ) got his file and reinstated his account. Now I have found his hidden admn account in safe mode ( p p) . I wanted to beat him at his own game but will have to resort to more traditional methods untill his grades pick up. i.e grounding , no t.v, locking up the key board ect

Thanks for the advice
