I keep getting a message from (e-mail address removed)
telling me about a patch that I need to install
immediately. But...my virus scan always picks up a virus
and needs to quarantine it. Is this message legitimate or
is this a virus trying to get into my system? I get this
message 3 or 4 times a day!!!

LRBj:
Microsoft does not send security updates, patches, fixes, etc. via email.
The attachments are viruses. There are several of these phony MS emails
making the rounds. Delete them.

Then send an email to the makers of your antivirus program thanking them
for protecting your computer.

What you are getting is exactly what it is trying to tell you, a virus.

DO NOT RESPOND, DELETE THESE MESSAGES, THEY ARE FAKE. MS
NEVER SENDS OUT MESSAGES TO UPDATE A SYSTEM.

Microsoft NEVER sends out anything unsolicited. You have to go to them.

I had to write 7 different rules to stop those messages from coming to
me.

Since I run my own mail server, I just ended up deleting the email
account that they were coming to.

I have been getting these ad nauseum for about a month. I
hate whoever has the computer so infected that it
continues to even function. There is nothing that I know
that can be done. Of course, keep virus updates going
and never respond. Good luck.
