Please help me! I am someone who just fools with the
computer at home, games, e-mail, research for kids, etc.
Here is the problem. I got a new computer with Windows
XP. I have had a computer with XP and didn't have any
problems with it at all. I use Yahoo!games at least once
a day (usually when baby won't go to sleep at night!) and
with this new computer, it will not display the game page
for me. I will click on the game I want, then the room I
want to go into and it will display the ad at the top of
the page but the rest of the page where there is usually
the game, is white....with the little tiny red X in the
top left corner.
Have checked security levels and all are on Medium. Is
there just a simple setting that needs to be changed
somewhere for these pages to be displayed?
I'm so frustrated at this point....haven't been able to
get any help with this issue at all....hoping someone out
there can help me.
Thanks!
Jaycee

Hi Jaydee ;
you need to download the Java Virtual Machine for games to work and other
pages to show on your new XP Machine.
You also need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader, Macromedia Shockwave and
Flash Players to see some pages with images and moving objects.

hope this helps.

Greetings --

I've never been tempted by anything on Yahoo!, much less their
games, but I belief that Java is required.

As the result of a lawsuit by Sun Microsystems, and the ensuing
settlement, Microsoft is no longer allowed to provide its own Java
Virtual Machine to Windows users. You can get almost the same
functionality by downloading Sun's version of Java from
http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html. If you want the broader
capabilities of Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine, it is still
available from a lot of 3rd-party web sites, some of which are listed
here: http://www.java-virtual-machine.net/download.html.

If you do choose the Microsoft JVM, be sure to visit Windows
Update to apply a needed security patch.

Hi again Jaycee :

In case you have'nt been able to open the games page, it all seems to point
out the Java Virtual Machine is at fault. There are quite a few versions
available that are outdated, so you could have downloaded an earlier version
of Java, if that is the case updating it might solve the problem. I've been
reading several posts saying that in some cases Java Virtual Machine from
Sun.com does not work with Windows XP right out, so you need to test it on
one of the following pages....

Fitwise.com even gives instructions on configuretion and determines which
version you have. http://www.fitwise.com/testjava.asp

The following page has a few other links to test your JVM, and get all kind
of info related to it.

bl

Windows XP does include the Microsoft version of the Java VM, it may be you
only need to configure it to get it to work... go to Internet
Explorer\Internet Options\Advanced Options\Microsoft VM tick on the first
two options, then test it here
http://home.wanadoo.nl/brugje/VM/index.htm#chk and if needed update it or
download a more recent version. Just follow instructions on this page
they're easy enough. Somewhere I read the Windows version is more
functional so it may be your last option.

If you still have no success download again using an Administrator account
(in case you have'nt).

Let us know how it turned out.
