Are there any good reference materials for locking down XP? Anything for
the various XP GPO settings?

All W2k era documentation is relevant for XP.
Newer features, capabilities, and policies are being
addressed with the W2k3 era document set.
Desktop control is an enterprise feature, and so that
is where you find the relevant documentation.

Even if you use local policy (non-domain environment)
the server level documentation on Group Policy is where
you will find the info, so drill in at the Technology Centers
of the server versions' webs into Management Services.
http://microsoft.com/grouppolicy shortcuts to this area
for the present version of Windows, but you may find
much more evolved, and relevant, info in the Management
Services technology center for W2k via
http://microsoft.com/windows2000/server/

The document for desktop scenarios in its W2k version
http://microsoft.com/windows2000/technologies/management/default.asp#section10
is a base starting point, but W2k3 era (i.e. XP) changes
can be effectively used to improve upon them. As far as I
am aware, the W2k3 version of this doc is not yet available.
See also the doc on managing XP in W2k environment, as it
outlines some new policy features in so far as they are useable
in W2k (which is less than in W2k3 and in cases XP stand-alone)
