Securing Administrator ID

I noticed that both my Win XP machines seem to have an administrator
ID. I don't know how to log on to it or how to provide it with a
password. For the time being I have disabled those IDs from the My
Computer -> Manage dialogs.

Was that the right/best thing to do? How can I password protect those
IDs? Should I leave them enabled?

Thanks

Undo that, and set passwords on them. You already found where to disable
them - it's the same place to set passwords. Re-enable them, and then
right-click, set password.

If your copy of XP is the Home version then the in-built Administrator
account password is blank. In XP Home the Administrator account can
only be accessed fro safe mode.

If your XP is the Professional version then the Administrator account
password was set when XP was installed. If you have forgotten the
Administrators password then oo to
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ and download the boot
disk, this will enable you to reset any system password on an NT class
operating system.

Once you have loged in to the Administrator account set a strong
password of atleast eight letters and numbers (and don't forget it or
stick it to the front of the computer as I have seen some people do).

Hi,

If you forget or lose your pass so that you need to reset it I suppose
you trying Active@ Password changer. That is a really mighty tool that
helped me before. It is small yet easy to use and can perform the
operation really quickly. Give it a glance.
