Hai!
I have one doubt in the organisation of disks by
sectors.
My doubt is in the disk every sector has capacity to
hold
512 bytes but the sectors in the middle of the disk
have
the size i.e length less than on the boundry. Then
how
in the sector can hold 512 byte as the outer ones?

thank u,

suresh.

I don't know how the hardware manufacturers manage this, but what we
disk users see is some huge number of sectors each of which hold 512
bytes. Whether the manufacturer makes each sector the same physical
size (which would mean that sectors on the outside of the platter have
a lot of extra space), or whether they make them all the same size
(which would maybe mean more empty space between sectors on the outer
tracks) doesn't matter to us.

All we know is that we - or the I/O system in our computer - gives the
disk the LBA (Logical Block Address) of a sector to be read or
written, and the disk reacts properly. The manufacturer can arrange
the nitty-gritty any way they want.
