Hi,

I created a second outlook data file for my daughter's email. However, when
she gets an email to her pop3 account, send/receive doesn't download it to
her mailbox.

Might there be a setting I missed or are you allowed only one data file to
receive email. When I set up the data file I entered the email account
including all the pop3 settings.

Thanks.

Gary

Do you mean that you set up a seperate profile for your daughter which
included mail server settings & PST settings?

Yes.

I can see her file in the folder list but nothing downloaded.

I do notice when I look at the data files, that the main one is called a
mail ... location or something to that affect while Rachel's has no label.

Could this have something to do with it?

Thanks.

Outlook can only run with one profile at a time. Either setup another OS
level user for your daughter and setup Outlook under that user (my preferred
solution) or start Outlook with different profiles under your login. You can
have Outlook prompt you for which profile to use on startup.

I don't fully understand your preferred option. Does OS stand for operating
system?

On the second, where would I find the option to ask for the prompt?

Thanks.

Yes, OS stands for operating system.

You can set the prompt option here: Control Panel > Mail applet > Show
Profiles

Vince,

Thanks for the help. I will add the prompt tonight and let you know if I
have problems.

Why do you prefer the OS option versus the prompt?

Then the answer is no. Separate mail profiles are done in Control Panel's
Mail applet, not within Outlook. You created a second Outlook data file (a
PST), but now you need to create an account that will download the mail from
her mailbox on the ISP and rules that will move those messages to her
folders.

However, that's not what I'd do. The first thing I'd do is create a new
Windows login for her, making it a limitd account, and then with that
account configure Outlook. This will give yuo completely separate mail so
the two of you don't mix each other's mail up.

Brian,

Thanks. If I understand you correctly, Outlook will look at the profiles
separately based on the login? She already has one of those. I was assuming
that it was always looking at the same outlook files. If that is true, then
it may already work when she logs in as herself. I will check that tonight.

Now, to be sure, I added her data file and account under my login. This
will have to be recreated (and deleted on mine) on her login?

Thanks.

It keeps all of the users' settings seperate. Much cleaner, in my opinion

Yes. Create her account in her Outlook. However, if I were you, I'd still
have her PST added to my profile (you don't need to add her account) so that
I could review the messages she gets (if she's a minor, of course).
