Second OS on XP ... Driving me NUTS

I have read all the help files with having more than one OS and that seems clear enough
I have installed a seperate HD and it is to this I want to use Win ME, but the problem at present is I am running XP on C drive

The help notes say that it is advisable to install OS from the earliest to latest but I dont really want to lose all the data I currently have. Is there anyway this can be done
The new drive os formatted, made primary and is active. XP recognises it as this info was displayed in device management and been made drive E
I have booted the PC with a ME disk boot disk and the PC only recognises the C drive. How do I load ME onto the new drive if I cant find it in DOS? I even went into BIOS and changed the HD in there to the new one, but still, the larger HD is the only one recognised
C: = 40gig and E: = 20 gi

I'm no PC wizz but is there something I am missing

Thanks in advanc

Hi,

Have you formatted the E drive in NTFS?
If yes, use disk management and format it to FAT32.

For Win9x/Me: Install 98/Me after XP is Installed.

Hope it helps.

Thanks ever so much for your quick responses and Doug Knox link was exactly what I was looking for :-
However, I am now faced with another problem and that being

When I go to load the setup files on E: drive it gives me this message the drive is compressed and I should uncompress it or use the disk cache utility then start setup again. Now, I have reformatted this disk many times, scan disked, error checked and made sure it was not compressed ... blah, blah, bla

I have gone to system info and checked its status there to which it tells me it is not compressed, everything is fine, Fat 32. its healthy, a primary partition etc. etc
After all this I skipped the option to uncompress and proceeded to load the new OS anyway ... This went fine, got to the part where it asks me where I want to load this new system, gave it the new drive and directory ... then it tells me the drive letter or directory is invalid. It also comes up with the error SU0343 or it might be SV0343

It' still driving me Nuts .......!

I am going to DL a new 98 bootup disk from Dougs link and give that a try as maybe the one I have could be corrupt ..... After that I'm all out of ideas ..

Any assistance appreciate

Kind regard
