Second Hard Drive restriction

Running Win XP Professional SP2 on stand alone PC. I am the only user, no
other users assigned.

I have installed a second HD which is identical to the first (Sata rives no
raid). The new HD is shown as New Volume (F:) 74.53GB NTFS Healthy.

The problem is that whatever I try to do with it eg. Back-up or click on the
drive icon or select F: in Windows Explorer I get the message:-
"The operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this
computer. Please contact your System Administrator"

Your help to resolve this would be very much appreciated - thankyou.

Have a look at the properties of the new hard drive and see if it is shared.

If this still doesn't work the next steps should succeed.
To take ownership of a folder, follow these steps:
1. Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then click
Properties.
2. Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one
appears).
3. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
4. In the Name list, click your user name, or click Administrator if you are
logged in as Administrator, or click the Administrators group. If you want to
take ownership of the contents of that folder, select the Replace owner on
subcontainers and objects check box.
5. Click OK, and then click Yes when you receive the following message:
You do not have permission to read the contents of directory folder name. Do
you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you
Full Control?

All permissions will be replaced if you press Yes.
Note folder name is the name of the folder that you want to take ownership
of.
6. Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you
want for the folder and its contents

Dear "BAR" thanks for helping...I think I have got the new drive shared...on
the "My Computer" window there are now Folders with 'Shared Docs' 'Admin
Docs' & Hard Disk Drives 'Local (C:) & New Volume (F:) each are being held by
a hand and when the pointer is put on these a little yellow pop up says
'Contains files & folders shared between users of this computer'. But the
restricton message still appears.

From your next instruction I am afraid I cannot fathom out as I dont know
what folder to click on...for eg if I right click on the 'Shared Docs' file
no Security Tab appears nor can I find in Advanced the 'Owner Tab'. I am
sure its simple but I cant pick up the concept.

If you can give me a further lead that would be great..and sorry if I am
trying your patience.

Windows explorer go to tools>folder options>view
there should be option for simple sharing or something like that (scroll all
the way down)
turn it off and it will give you full menu for file sharing options
(including take ownership)
