Originally had 98SE installed on my hard drive and had so
much dificulty getting it to load the XP home upgrade due
to shared fax client conflict. Tried many fixes to no
avail. So it was suggested to get a new hard drive load
the XP home OS and then possibly move my files from the
98SE HD over to the new XP HD. Unfortunatly the computer
did not recognize the 98 HD. I could shut down,
disconnect the XP HD and the computer would boot up on
the 98SE HD. MS help phone me at home and assisted me in
clearing the fax cleint conflict and we loaded XP onto
that hard drive too... I have activated and registered
XP home on the new HD but am still unable to acess my
files on the upgraded HD. And now I have the additional
problem that XP is now registered on the one drive and
won't allow me to get to the files when I disconnect the
new HD and boot from the upgraded HD.

Please help as this is very frustrating and the wish now
was to never have spent the money to upgrade XP. It has
now come to cost me a new hard drive, the inability to
access my old files which still reside on the upgraded
HD, the cost of the XP home upgrade and being flooded
with the anoying endless XP patches and fixes.

Are your HDDs on the same cable, if so, has one of them (old98) been set up
as a slave with the jumpers on said HDD.
If not your situation is guaranteed, thus set the (old98) HDD up as a slave
now.
Please say if you do not understand or, not know how set a drive as a slave.

You may want to look at "take ownership" in help & support to access the
files on the second HD.
