I have been having problems accessing the search function
in the address bar and the search button. I always get an
error. I have reset all my internet options and contacted
comcast which stated I have a bug called QHost-1. I went
to the MS site and loaded the latest patch (828750) which
is suppossed to solve this virus. It loaded fine and is
in my computer program list and I rebooted my computer
however it didn't change anything. Is there something
else I need to do, or another fix? I also have the latest
version and updates of Norton Antivirus and scanned my
entire hard drive but it did not find the QHost-1 or any
other viruses. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!!

I have the same problem but cant fix it. theres a removal
tool for the virus on symantec website which didnt find
the virus. I also installed the patch. Websites like AV
and google load up but when you type in something and
press search nothing happens and some links work others
dont especially the ones on search sites.

jm,
The Microsoft patch fixes the hole that the QHost Trojan used to invade your
system, however it does *not* address the removal of the culprit.

Trojan Qhosts hijacks the HOSTS file, however unlike normal redirectors,
this one hides the HOSTS file in the "Windows\Help" folder. It then
creates entries that redirects *all* major search engines to a website.
Note: this website has now been removed, thus the DNS errors.
Some users have reported multiple HOSTS files in various locations

You can detect "Qhosts" via a new beta version of HijackThis
