Searchng MS WORD Docs Simultaneously

Greetings. I have a folder with about 100 MS WORD XP
documents that are about 1-4 megabytes each. I keep them
relatively small because they contain a lot of formating
and the like. I understand that the master document /
subdocument feature of WORD is still unreliable (is this
still true in MS WORD 2003?), but it is very tedious to
open and close files searching and sometimes replacing
things. Is there any add-on program out there that is
compatible with MS WORD XP that is not too expensive?
That is, is there any handy search software I can used to
search a multitude of MS WORD documents. Thanks.

Windows' built-in search function (Start > Search) can look for text within
Word documents. It won't find formatting or regular expressions, but plain
text is fine.

No, you completely misunderstood my question. Of course
WORD has a search function. Good Lord! I am interested
in an add-on program that can search several WORD
documents in one folder, such as WORDpipe (which is too
cumbersome). AskSam can do this, but the formatting I
need in my documents does not work in AskSam.

Oops! I guess I misunderstood your reply, too. Regarding
Windows Search function, it's almost completely useless,
so I'm looking for something better.

I find Windows Search far superior to the search function in current
versions of Word.

Rebecca,
There is a very useful search tool named Odyssey
http://www.sorcerersoftware.com/odyssey.htm
It far exceeds the capabilities of Windows Explorer.
The demo is very limited in file types. The small registration offers
unlimited file types and quantities.
I use it to search html and numerals (WE does neither,)
The search options are limited and take some getting used to.

I'd be lost without it as my folder structure is quite extensive.

I suppose that's what you're supposed to say, but it would
be very helpful to mention an add-on (even thought --
gasp! -- it's not made by MS) relevant to my posts and the
function I am concerned about. Never mind!

Where do you get off being so f**king rude?

Are you under the impressing that the posters like Suzanne work for
Microsoft? This is an entirely volunteer forum.

There's no "supposed to say" about it, this is a totally volunteer help
forum, except for very occasional posts. Try Googling, if anyone who had
read your post knew of an add-in, they would have mentioned it. Please
don't accuse people of deliberately withholding helpful information from
you, that's absurd.

However, since you've been vague about exactly what you require and why the
existing Windows search isn't good enough, it would be difficult to
recommend anything anyhow.

I find it amusing that someone who has been rude in more than one post is so quick to accuse someone else of being rude... even your accusation is rude. I'm disappointed that I feel the need to even justify your comments with a response but I've been biting my tongue too long with some of your posts, Jezebel.

Bite away, sugar puff.
