Searching from the start menu

When I click on start then search, nothing happens. My
PC freezes for about 20 seconds and then continues as if
I never did anything. Anyone know what this all about?
 
Try opening start/task bar in control-panel,open start,options,scroll dow
to the box and check,display search in start menu.

I have done that. It appears on the start menu but it
just doesn't do anyhting. I dont understand it.
