Searches don't return all results

I've discovered that Vista searches don't tend to return all results; so far,
I've found this predominantly in Outlook (2007, if that matters). I've run
tests where I've searched for known emails (known because I'm basing the
search on their contents), and search isn't displaying them.

As far as I can tell, there isn't any special about the emails, and I
haven't had the time to try to find a document that search doesn't locate.
Obviously, it was only by random chance that I found some emails that search
doesn't locate.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

I can express having the same problem. Additionally, Windows Mail and WLMd
are even worse then OL2007.

Vista by default searches its index. So possibilities are that the indexer
hasn't completed indexing everything, or the e-mails are in a folder that
the indexer isn't looking at. If you want to modify the index locations,
follow these steps:

1. Open Indexing and Search Options by clicking the Start button , clicking
Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Indexing
Options.

2. Click Modify.

3. To add a location, select its check box in the Change selected locations
list, and then click OK.

If you don't see all of the locations on your computer in the Change
selected locations list, click Show all locations. If you are prompted for
an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide
confirmation.

If you want to include a folder but not all of its subfolders, expand the
folder, and then clear the check box next to any folder you don't want to
index. These folders will appear in the Exclude column of the Summary of
selected locations list.

Thanks, but I've tried all that. The Index Service say it's finished at 134K+
documents, and all of the "right" folders are selected (or, in this case,
PST's, because there's no option that I can see to select folders within a
PST).

Seems like there's just some work to do on the indexer. It's a bummer, too,
because search is one of the things I like best about Vista. Unfortuntely, it
MUST be 100% accurate to be effective for how I use it...

That wont help OL2007. It either has access to the store file or it
doesn't. If it can find one email then it has the ability to find them ALL
but it doesn't.

Same problems here. Very erratic. One time it won't work and 5 minutes
later without closing the application it will find the items.

Search function needs a major upgrade it misses out on some documents that I
was looking for and now worse it cannot even find a Microsoft program -
Windows Photo Gallery.

The program is now pinned to my Start memory and have run it a number of
times over the last week and Start>Search still cannot find it.

What is the point of providing a program that does not work correctly.

Does Microsoft monitor this forum and if so do they ever respond?

I saw your other post with that problem. I would have to say you are having
an issue with the index that is not common. I can not get search to not
find a file on my system or anything in the start menu. Email seems to be
my only problem.

Have you tried to rebuild the index?

Thanks for responding yes have tried defaults and rebuilding indexing
nothing seems to work:-(
Indexing as I understand is only for personal files not programs.
