I hope this is the right place but every time i try to
use the search function explorer (windows) closes itself,
can anyone help.

Try this link for Help and Support..

Or, go to Start > run and type: helpctr -regserver

To totally reinstall help and support, copy and paste the following
line in a Start > Run prompt:

rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
%systemroot%\inf\pchealth.inf

The program will ask for the Windows XP CD, alternatively, try to
point it to the Windows\System32\dllcache folder and the
Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 folders.

I went to the link downloaded the file, ran it now
