I was trying to identify an object showing as an IE browser add-in (problem
now solved). However, one respondent told me to "search registry" implying
that this was different from searching "folders and files". Sorry to show my
lack of knowledge, but for future reference, could someone please tell me
what the steps are to search XP registry.

Start>Run>regedit [enter]

See the Find function on the Menu toolbar. However, messing about in
your registry is not recommended unless you really know what you are
doing. That is why most techs will suggest you first try third-party
tools like Ad-aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, ToolBarCop, etc.

Grateful for this.
