Search vs hidden files

XP Pro. Our admin has disactivated the "Search" feature in Windows
Explorer, because he says that some hidden files will be listed. And
he doesn't want so even if the files won't open because of restricted
access.

This is a detail but how annoying.

How to overcome this? Is there a third-party search utility that won't
show hidden files? Is my admin wrong and is there a setting in XP to
prevent hidden files to show?

TIA

You fail to understand the goals of centralized computer management.
1. We know what is best for the users. (This is an absolute)
2. Control, control, control
3. The users have no need for capabilities beyond what we think they need.
4. Enhanced User capability is counter productive when it comes to insuring
the continued existance of the IT department.

Your choices:

1. Persuade the administrator to see the error of their ways.
(This can be accomplished in several ways.)

a. when a search is needed, require them to accomplish it, keeping
track of the response time.
Submit a formal cost reduction / time save suggestion.

b. Guerrilla warfare
(Your imagination is your guide.)

Remember today's office place is non confrontational. Traditional remedies
are frowned upon.

If your admin knew his job a bit better, he'd simply give everyone a
limited account (and lockdown additional folders/files) so as not to put
critical hidden files in view.

If internet access hasn't been blocked, you could simply download MSN or
Google desktop search facilities.

Google Desktop might be the answer. Question.about security that I
didn't find on Google (!). How does the index work? Is there ANY copy
of an index files that will be copied outside the intranet?
