every time I open up internet explorer a toolbar "search the web" appears at
the bottom of my screen hiding the start bar even if i close the internet
the bar still remains on my normal screen making shut down or switch user
impossible without just switching the computer off. I,ve run adware and it is
showing no probs. Please any ideas.

Hello,
Go to IE then View-Toolbars then uncheck the "search the web"...
If that solves it then you should go to Control Panel-Add or Remove Programs
and unistall the one referring to that toolbar...

Did you already check in Add or Remove Programs to check if it's not there
the install package for that toolbar ? You can try also Ad-aware SE personal
or Spybot or even Search&Destroy ...

You have CoolWebSearch and it is a real bastard to get rid of. You need to
A) change your home page in Control Panel/internet Options B) run Adaware
and Spybot which get rid of it for this session only. C) Run Hijackthis and
delete bogus entries AND any exe associated with that.

In short if you aren't happy you can do any of that without stuffing your
computer, you need to pay someone to do it for you.

many thanks unfortunately it wasn't showing in any of the places you
mentioned and I ran Ad aware 6. It showed nothing up. But this afternoon
suddenly a message came up asking if I wanted to make it my home page I
responded no and it disappeared. fingers crossed it doesn't return.

It will. It always does if it is CoolWebSearch.

Hi,

I tried some of the software that was listed, but it got ugly pretty quickly.

So, I ended up using a restore point from a couple of weeks ago and that has
solved the issue for now. Now, if I could just get the kids to stop
accepting pop-ups!!

Cheers,
Jeff
