I have Windows XP, a Dell computer and for some months now, my search
program will not work. I am referring to the place under the start menu
where you type in part of a name or file and it searches for it.

When I type something in, it just freezes. I can't find any way to fix it
and no one that I have talked to has any suggestions. I have the program CD
for installing XP, can I just reinstall the whole thing, or is there
something I can do to make it work again. Is there a particular file I can
look for to reinstall just that part of the program?

If I do install it, will I damage any files that are in my memory? I am
pretty experienced in finding and fixing, for a grandma, but this one stumps
me.
Thank you for your help
