Hello,

I did my usual AdAware run on my machine the other day and lo and behold
some site dropped a load of malware (browser hijack) on my machine. It was
of no surprise since my search and home pages had changed without my
direction.

Since cleaning the system of the garbage, I have no longer been able to
simply type a search in my address bar and retrieve results as I have in the
past. I went into the Internet Options and tried a restore of the system
defaults to no avail. This same thing happened on an old computer I have and
I even went so far as to make some changes in the registry for the search
page settings and it still did not function as it should. Anyone have any
suggestions?

Thank you! That worked perfectly.

Is there an explanation what is being done with this registry entry? Like I
said, I *thought* I had corrected the problem in the registry once before
with an older machine but it never worked...or more accurately, I wasn't
correct.

Hi Randolph - Well, you can open the .reg file in Notepad to see what keys
are being reset. Basically, when I wrote it, I was intending to provide a
simple way to respond to a very frequent request in these groups (to restore
search functionality upset by malware) by restoring the normal "default"
entries that you'd get if you clicked on Tools|Internet
Options|Programs|Reset Web Settings but with a few additional fixes for some
added things that get changed sometimes by malware. That help?

Please respond in the same thread.
