With Microsoft Works ( Windows XP Home Edition) I save a file , say xyz and
then with Search I look for xyz.
Search runs and reports xyz cannot be found!
What am I doing wrong?

You are doing wrong that you are not explaining the problem...:
Tell every single option in the Search. I mean what is the Value of each thing/

The search function in XP is only associated with certain file types. Go to the following website and scroll down to Line 136, left side and click the "Search for All File Types" link to download the file. Double click the downloaded file to merge. This will allow the search assistant to search for any files on the computer.

Didn't SP2 take care of that?

Hi Pop,

There was an update in SP1a, IIRC, and a later hotfix on Windows Update. I think these updates simply added file types to the search list. The fix on MVP Kelly's website causes the search to include any unknown file types when searching.

It adds the following registry value:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex]
"FilterFilesWithUnknownExtensions"=dword:00000001
