I can't seem to search emails from the shell. I am using windows mail and
live mail desktop. I know they are being indexed. Search works great from
the apps themselves. Is my system ok or is this just a problem with vista
search?

where is the windows mail data store?

thanks

Tools | Options | Advanced tab | Maintenance button | Store Folder button
will show the location.

I'm having no problems searching from the Start Search bar or from winthin
WinMail's Search bar.

Depending upon what is being searched and if it's been indexed.

When I search from the Start Search bar, I get lots of email hits.
So, it's not a Vista issue.

Do you guys get instant results?

I guess I have a problem somewhere.
Really frustrating...

thanks anyway

Yes, the speed is awesome. Search is one of the few things that
Vista has improved over XP. The speed comes from an intelligent
indexing service which runs in the background when the computer
is not busy.

I think I found the source of my problem.

There is a button that says search the file system (slow)
instead of the index. I had that checked. When I took the check
off, things were really fast and emails came up. This makes
sense because searching the file system for emails is
a losing proposition. It also was very slow. Don't check that
button!

thanks to all for all your help
