I entered "*.doc" in Search expecting to find a list of all my word document.
I did get a list of 138, but they were all in the recycle bin.

I then choose a .doc file from Windows Explorer. Search failed to find it.

Something is wrong here.

Thanks

I was prowling around in Windows Explorer. I'm not quite comfortable with it.
Files located in My Documents can also find found at Local Disk C: There
seems to be a redundancy here.

It sounds like you "deleted" your documents. Might I suggest opening the
recycle bin, select a document, then on the Menu, pick File and then
Restore.

Quite right Bob, I did delete the .doc files that were displayed in Search
results as being in the Recycle bin. The search was for *.doc. Why were'nt
all of those files, including those in Windows Explorer displayed?

Usual reason is your search area is constrained in some manner. For
instance not looking in hidden or system folders, or perhaps search
starting part way down a directory path.

I think you are right. The constraints I imposed on the search have led me to
believe that there is a problem where there is none. Search treats "All files
and folders" differently from "Documents (word processing, spreadsheets,
etc.)" The first option produced only 138 results. The second one produced
over 9000.

Problem solved. Thanks
