I have been experiencing problems using the internet. I
recieve a message "svc host has generated an error and
will be shut down". This prevents many Explorer functions
from working. Any clue on how to fix this problem would be
much appreciated! P.S. No i did not install bearshare 2.
This is a fresh copy of Win2k prof.

Sounds like you have Blaster or some such. You can do an online virus scan
from here -> http://housecall.antivirus.com/ or
http://www.mcafee.com/myapps/mfs/default.asp
Hit Symantec.com for worm removal tools, and get appropriate patches from
MS.

Always keep a new box off the network until it is armor plated (patched, AV,
GOOD passwords, etc.) Doesn't matter that it is a "fresh" copy or not,
unpatched systems can be infected in minutes if exposed to unsecured (read:
most) networks. Also doesn't matter whether you installed crapware or not,
Blaster punches a hole in a legitimate NT service.
