I have a creative dvd that does not work or recognise it,
I have another dvd rewrit that works but does not burn.
When the computor is turned on the Adaptec ask for Select
tm utility for scsi and shows the creative dvd in Id 2
and when I hit the id 2, it says that it is not a hard
drive. Anyone know what my problem is. Thanks Pat

When you startup and it asks this, it is asking what hard drive you want
to boot from. To boot from the CD, you are going to have to set that in
the BIOS of the computer. Look on the boot up screen and look for
something like Press DEL to enter Setup. Follow that and look in there
for boot sequence ;)

For some reason, the message got sent before I was finished. Anyways,
to address the issue of the drive not appearing and the other one not
writing. Does the DVD Drive appear in the BIOS? If it does, then
Windows has a problem. Check this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320553

For the burner that isn't working, try this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324129

Also, you said SCSI, but is that just a card in your computer or do you
actually have SCSI Hard drives and optical drives? A specific
description of the hardware involved would be helpful :)

.
Is it possible that the creative dvd player is installed
incorrectly and installed as a hard drive with the scsi

Well you should't connect an IDE Device to a SCSI Controller. This
could fry either your SCSI Card, IDE Device, or both. Make sure you
have everything connected properly inside. If the DVD Drive is SCSI,
make sure you have the right SCSI ID number chosen for it. What exactly
is the SCSI being used for? What motherboard is this? What drives are
SCSI and what drives are IDE?
