Hi Gang,

Has anyone heard of a Microsoft program called "Scrunch"? I'm having
trouble getting my CPU to work at 1.7 GHz, and came across a Registry
entry called Scrunch, where one of the keys says "CPU Clock Speed",
and the value is 0x000004af(1199). That last figure is about where my
speed has been, in spite of trying to get max speed using
SpeedSwitchXP, which seemed to work fine until I changed the setting
once; ever since it won't go back. Any suggestions? TIA

What is your processor - Intel or AMD and model name, please. Is this a
laptop? How exactly are you overclocking? What cooling do you have in
place?

It's a ThinkPad A31p with Intel 1.7 GHz, 512 RAM. I'm not
overclocking, rather I'm running SpeedSwitchXP, which one of you kind
souls said was needed so that the unit would run at max speed with no
battery installed. Apparently when the battery is taken out and it's
run on the mains, it runs slower. I had it running at 1.7 with
SpeedSwitch, then changed a setting. When I changed it back, it
wouldn't run any faster than 1.2. I uninstalled SpeedSwitch, then
re-installed, to no avail. AIDA32, under "Motherboard", shows it as
"Mobile Intel Pentium 4, 1200 MHz, (3 x 400)". That 3 x 400 is
interesting. What does it mean? Then down further, under "Original
Clock", it says "1700 MHz".

What do you figure?

speed?

Au contraire, 3x400 = 1200, which =is= the listed 1200 Mhz speed.

OK, gotcha. So then, getting back to my purpose in the original
post... can you tell me whether it's possible to configure the
ThinkPad and SpeedSwitch so that it will run at the full 1.7 GHz when
its running on the mains and the battery is not in it, and some
instructions as to how to do it?

Nope, sorry .. not familiar with either of those items. IIrc the 1.7Ghz
mobile P4 does run at 400Mhz FSB, but you need a higher multiplier than
3. Exactly how you set that, I have no idea.
