My scrollbar goes down automatically. Any attempt to scroll up always result
in a rapid up and down motion which continues untill I give up. What is the
problem and how can I solve it. Can someone help me. Thanks

Best guess is either a mouse with stuck scroll wheel or keyboard with stuck down arrow or page down key. I suggest rebooting first to have a clean environment, then try disconnecting first the mouse then the keyboard to see if that identifies the culprit,

Thanks Bob. I have tried it several times it did not work. The scrollbar has
being moving erratically for the past few weeks. Sometimes it renders my
computer useless. It took me almost 15 minutes to type this post becuase the
scrollbar goes down every second. Someone suggested a spyware remover, so I
downloaded windows defender but the problem still remains.

Does it happen in all applications? Is there a problem with the keyboard
down arrow?

Yes it happens on every application. I am using a laptop, so I do not think it has anything to do with the keyboard. I am typing at the bottom of the page because the cusor key won't stay at the top; it goes down by itself. it is very frustrating.

How do you scroll up? If you highlight an Icon in the upper left corner
of the desktop what happens?

whenever I scroll up, the scroll bar comes down by itself. If I was lucky, I would scroll about twenty times before being able to click the right icon. That is how I browse the internet. What I should do in 5 minute takes about 1hr, if at all I am able to do it. whenever I highlight an icon on the left corner of the desktop, within a fraction of a second, the highlight goes all the way down to the last icon on the desktop. It takes a lot of painstaking clicking and re-clicking as well as closing any unwanted window before I can open any window I really want. And Norton virus scan detected nothing. what could be wrong. Thank you. I appreciate you concern

That is indicative of a stuck down arrow key, at the least as far as the
operating system is concerned. Now the only othe test I can think of to
check and verify this is to open the BIOS and see if the menu selection
zips to the bottom there too.

The keyboard is dirty, stuck or otherwise broken. If you take it to a
shop they may tell you what it costs to fix it.

Did you say it's Vista? Best to post to a Vista newsgroup. This one is for
the XP OS. Here is a list of Visa newsgroups.
