I'm having problems with all my word documents (now using XP!!). The icon at the bottom of my screen that looks like an open book with a pen wrinting on it,( sorry to be so non technical) is continually writing - I understand that this means it is continually saving. I don't know if this is connected to the fact that my footer seems to be 'refreshing' continually and when I scroll down the document it 'judders' rather than running smoothly. This whole situation is slowing my work down considerably and I am always working to a very tight deadline - Help please. Has anyone else encountered this and di they find a solution?

It sounds like you have a table in your header or footer with possibly a
floating graphic in the table. Is this true? If so, make the graphic
"in-line" instead of "floating". That should fix it.

I do indeed have a table with a graphic in - however I have checked and the graphic is inline.

Hi, Jumper,

Just to add a bit...

The icon of the book and pen has nothing to do with saving. It means that
Word is running the spelling checker in the background. Right-click the
icon, choose Options from the popup menu, and uncheck the option "check
spelling while you type" to turn it off. You can run the spelling checker
manually from the Tools menu whenever you want.
