well - believe it or not, after calling Windows, who won't do support because XP was installed by Dell at the factory, and emails and phone calls to Dell - I FINALLY got in touch with a Dell Tech named Greg, who walked me through a bunch of things: power schemes under screensaver properties, and finally had me remove a bunch of things that were starting at startup. Amazingly, after all that, it works just fine now - power scheme is set to Always On, and all other boxes are set to never......It's nice to know that the idea of great customer service is not completely disappeared

Did you check to see if it set to a screen saver instead of "None"? Also check the number of minutes its set to activate. I can't think of any other reason why it wouldn't work. You might try a system restore to the point right before you loaded the wireless adapter. Go to Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > Restore my computer to an earlier time > Next > Choose a date before you installed the wireless adapter, make sure you choose a "System Checkpoint" time > Next. Follow the prompts from there.

we just purchased a new Dell, with all software installed, and the screensaver will not automatically activate. The only modifications we have done (at the same time as we were hooking up the computer) was to install a Linksys WMP11 Wireless-B PCI adapter. We sent an email to Dell tech support and received 2 answers - one said he was only a hardware support person, and the other gave us some instructions about Power settings, etc. The screensaver worked once, and has not activated automatically since. Has anyone had these types of problems before? I'm just about at wit's end......
thanks
