Screen Saver

I had my screensaver set for a 5 minute timeout and power setting to turn off
the monitor after 1 hour. A few months ago it stopped working.

After experimenting I found out that the screensaver would only work if the
timeout was set to 1 or 2 minutes. This would make the screensaver work but
the monitor would not turn off. Occaisonally it works but when I turn the
system off and back on it fails again. Most of the time it does not work.

I've tried a windows repair but that didn't help.

If I run sfc /scannow it fixes the problem until I reboot the computer then
the problem is back.

Any ideas on which system file is getting overwritten/corrupted?

Thanks,

John

My advise, uninstall the screen saver. Poorly written software can cause
a whole host of problems screensavers being of this kind. Screen savers
haven't been necessary since the monochrome and EGA/VGA monitor days.

After the uninstall run msconfig in the run box and see if the saver is
still listed in the startup group listing. If problems persist then it's
not likely the screen saver is the problem. Diagnostics is a systematic
process of elimination. Change _one_ thing at a time. If that's not the
problem, undo the change and move to the next possibility. I have worked
on PCs that took several days to figure out.

Thanks, I don't think that it is the screensave as anyone I pick works the
same way and they all worked OK before the problem began.
