Is it true that screen saver consumes a lot of power that it is not necessary
to put it on?

Hi,

Normal operation and Screen Saver On use (nearly) the same amount of power.
If you want to save power, set Energy Management (below Screen Saver
settings)
Turn Off Monitor after : ?? Minutes.

There is one downside for CRT-monitors ONLY, the Turn Off Monitor feature
causes
additional Cooling Down - Warming Up cycles which may reduce monitor life
span.

Depends on the screen saver. Many non-ms screen savers take tons of cpu
power to run.
