Screen Saver interrupts session - Windows XP SP2

My screen saver starts before the wait time has been reached. It does this
over and over as I am actively using my computer.

Change the screensaver (which one you use) and timeout time to 20+ minutes.
Be sure to change the power settings to 25+ minutes when you do that.
 
Right click on blank area of Desktop.
Choose PROPERTIES.
Then Settings then Display Resolution.

Adjust slider

The display resolution has nothing to do with screensaver settings. The
OP should do as Shenan Stanley suggested.

Unfortunately this did not stop the problem. Another characteristic is that
the interval between when the screensaver activates shortens the longer it's
been since I rebooted my computer. Right after rebooting it is probably 5
minutes between attempts. After approx. a day it tries 3 times during a 13
character login.
