Screen Resolution Changes on Reboot

Hello, I have an HP DC 5000 with windows XP, SP1 installed on it. The
monitor being used is a NEC 19" CRT. When I change the resolution to
1024X768 and then reboot the machine, the resolution reverts back to 1200 X
1024. Ive tried uninstalling both the monitor and video card from Device
Manager and have the OS find and install the drivers for these devices. Ive
also updated the video card driver by getting new drivers from the net. I
get the same result each time. Is it possible that it could be a profile
issue and if i were to delete and let one be recreated this could resolve the
issue? Thank you in advance for your responses.
 
After you moved the slider to 1024X768, did you click OK? Well, that's WRONG.
You must click Apply first then OK to set and save settings.
 
Byte.. That is not true. OK will save the changes, this is another
problem. I'm running into it as well, and have not found the solution.
 
See if this also occurs with a different account/profile. If all is well
there, then the profile is broken and not saving changes properly.
