screen freezes

in the past few weeks my computer freezes nearly every day after i try and open up a window or any program. when i try and close the program i get a screen that says program not responding and then the whole comp just freezes. ultimately i end up restarting my computer which is both annoying and bad for the comp. i ran norton anitvirus and stinger and both came up with no viruses. what do i do??
 
Boot into safe mode and see if it is more stable. Go to msconfig and run
system in diagnostic mode . Press ok . reboot . If it is stable then you may
have driver problems and if it is not you may have hardware problem. Repost
with results . Jym
