screen display problem

i have a problem with the size of display on my new laptop. i installed a new windows xp home on my new pc and now i can't seem to be able to make the display size bigger. it's only about 50% of the size it should be. and it's placed in the middle of the screen. can someone help me? thankyou in advance

Check the resolution setting, in Control Panel|DISPLAY|ADVANCED.
Test 1024 X 768 - or 800 X 600
