Screen Dimming?

A few moments after logging on and the desktop appearing, my screen goes
instanly dimmer. Is there a solution?

Since you haven't told us anything about your computer or whether you
upgraded to Vista or got it preinstalled, it's not possible to give you
specific advice. If you have a laptop and you upgraded to Vista, my
guess is that you need the drivers and power management software for
Vista that you can only get from the laptop mftr. If this isn't your
situation, then please post back after looking at this link to see what

I use a laptop with Vista Business installed. I noticed this odd behavior
in Vista after it has been in either Sleep or Hibernation mode. Restarting
Vista corrects the dim screen problem. The same laptop ran XP without this
problem occurring, so its related Vista.
 
"Don't Panic!". Great advice from a great book... :) Douglas Adams was a
great man.

On topic: do you have any profiles set with your display drivers? Some allow
you to change the brightness, contrast, etc., and as Windows starts up, it
runs on default. As soon as the display driver module loads, it loads that
display profile.

You may have an icon on the taskbar from NVIDIA or ATI that has a properties
menu. Look in there and you might be able to change it to something better.
 
I also have had this happen to me a couple of times on my notebook. In my
case it was a hardware problem. When I would first open up the lid of my
laptop, the small LCD switch would get stuck, so the system thought that the
notebook lid was closed instead of open. I haven't closed the lid of my
notebook in about 3 weeks, and I have not experieneced this problem again.
 
It's related to Vista only in the fact that you do not have the equivalent
Vista drivers and manufacturers utilities installed - as you did in Windows
XP. Get them and you will find that it is not related to Vista at all.

My screen does the same thing - the mouse and monitor menus are nice and
bright, but everything else is dim. unlike jabrl, I seem to have this problem
randomly after it comes out of sleep mode or even turn it on for the first
time that day. sometimes restarting helps... but most often not. I've checked
for updated video drivers, but there are none. My computer came with vista 32
bit already installed.
